Offline vs. Online marketing?
0A friend mentions that offline ways of sales and marketing for a logistics company exceeds way further than online media in terms of sales and revenue. Is it true?
Sales Charts
Frankly, I don’t know. I don’t really own a large enough shipping company to be able to deal with offline methods of sales and marketing. But frankly, what’s our target niche? For me, I am dealing with online brokerage. And so far, it appears to be an increasing demand. As the younger generation overtakes the older one, this generation is empowered with the knowledge of computers and the Internet. It’s going to be a major overhaul for all kinds of businesses when we finally start to take over the role of being the major money maker and spender age group.

What about offline methods? Yes, they work. But it won’t last long. Do you still read newspapers? Or just online news? Fact is, everyone is migrating to reading news online. Why? It’s free! Why pay for people to cut down trees when you can read it online? Obviously right? It does make obvious sense.

Newspapers
The Internet is here to stay. Newspapers and TVs aren’t.
Freight brokers and couriers.
0Everyone knows couriers. Internationally there are DHL, UPS, Fedex, just to name a few. Locally in Malaysia there’s Skynet, City Express, etc.

Couriers
My cousin asked me recently if I could find the cheapest price for sending a notebook across Malaysia.
Well, can one do brokering for couriers?
My own opinion? No. You can’t negotiate a deal with a courier. You can’t sign any agreements with them. But why? Because, they are well known enough, that people can just bypass you. Yes, freight brokers can offer price comparisons. That’s the key factor about freight brokers. But fact is, couriers are few as compared to all other shipping areas. And, even if you manage to gather information about the price, what’s next? How are you going to collect money? No way. They pay straight to DHL. You won’t get a cent. So it’s really a bad way to start off as a broker if you want to deal with small items and couriers.
Only when it deals with International shipping. now that’s a totally different story…
